Petro Gazz Secures Victory over Galeries Tower in Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference
Petro Gazz emerged victorious against Galeries Tower in a thrilling encounter during the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The final scoreline saw Petro Gazz triumph with a 25-11, 26-24, 25-22 win.
The match saw Petro Gazz’s Grethcel Soltones playing a pivotal role, leading the team to their first triumph in the PVL All-Filipino Conference with an impressive 19-point performance. Soltones sealed their victory with a powerful down-the-line spike.
In the third set, the Angels held a comfortable 23-16 lead, but the Highrisers from Galeries Tower refused to surrender easily. Audrey Paran, in particular, led a furious rally, closing the gap to 23-20. However, a crucial block from Petro Gazz put them at matchpoint. Paran and Mary Anne Esguerra retaliated with back-to-back kills, keeping Galeries Tower’s hopes alive. Ultimately, Soltones sealed the match for Petro Gazz with her sharp attack.
Aside from Soltones, veteran player Aiza Pontillas also contributed significantly to Petro Gazz’s victory, scoring 10 points. KC Galdones and Jonah Sabete also played an essential role, combining for 14 points. Djanel Cheng made a difference with her impressive 15 excellent sets.
On the other hand, Galeries Tower fell short of making a spectacular debut in the league, with none of their squad members scoring in double figures. Paran finished as their top scorer with only eight points. The Highrisers also struggled with their defense and service, managing a single block from Esguerra and recording three aces out of 58 attempts.
