De La Salle Teammates Lead Strong Group to Victory in Dubai International Basketball Championship

De La Salle basketball players Kevin Quiambao and Francis Escandor teamed up and led Strong Group to a resounding 89-67 victory over Al Wahda Syria in the 2024 Dubai International Basketball Championship. The game took place at the Al Nasr Club on Saturday, Jan. 20, (Manila time).

With the assistance of team import Dwight Howard, Quiambao and Escandor dominated the game, impressing the Filipino crowd in attendance. The pair sealed the victory with only one missed attempt, combining for 11 three-point shots made. Quiambao finished with 24 points, five rebounds, and two assists, while Escandor contributed 18 points to the scoreboard.

The game also saw naturalized Filipino center Andray Blatche redeem himself after a lackluster performance in the opening game. Blatche scored 12 points, including back-to-back three-pointers in the first quarter.

Meanwhile, Jordan Heading chipped in 12 points, and former NBA star Dwight Howard added five points and 10 crucial rebounds.

The win against Al Wahda Syria marks the second consecutive victory for the Strong Group in the championship. Their next challenge will come against Lebanon’s Homenetmen on Sunday, Jan. 21 (Manila time).

Strong Group’s early lead was fueled by Blatche’s 8-2 run in the first quarter, followed by Howard’s statement block and last-second three-pointer to maintain the gap. Quiambao’s six three-pointers further extended Strong Group’s lead, helping the team secure a comfortable victory.

Al Wahda’s efforts were led by Myron Jordan, who scored 19 points, and Jomaru Hohadbrown, who added 17 points off the bench.

The game showcased Strong Group’s excellent performance and dominant play, demonstrating their determination to succeed in the championship.
