Wendy Valdez expresses disappointment over lack of PWD-friendly spaces in the Philippines

Former “Pinoy Big Brother” contestant Wendy Valdez recently spoke out about the lack of accessible public spaces for persons with disabilities (PWDs). Valdez shared her disappointment after experiencing a challenging encounter involving her son Emmanuel Seth, who has spina bifida and relies on a wheelchair for mobility.

In a Facebook post, Valdez criticized a mall in Pasay for its failure to accommodate PWDs and babies in strollers properly. She called out elevator attendants and mallgoers who did not follow proper protocol, urging them to show consideration for those who need assistance.

Valdez emphasized the importance of respecting the rights of PWDs and other vulnerable groups in public spaces, urging staff to educate mallgoers on elevator etiquette. She expressed frustration at the lack of awareness and courtesy shown to individuals with disabilities.

She also highlighted the challenges faced by PWDs in a country that she described as “unfriendly” towards them, suggesting that some may feel compelled to seek opportunities abroad. Valdez, known for her appearance on “Pinoy Big Brother” in 2007, is an advocate for disability rights and inclusion.

Valdez’s message serves as a reminder of the importance of creating a more inclusive and accessible environment for all members of society, regardless of their abilities or disabilities.

She is currently married to Normann Garcia, with whom she has two children.
