Joey Reyes overcomes hesitations to accept the FDCP challenge

New Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) Chair and CEO Revealed

Even before officially taking over the role as the head of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), Jose Javier Reyes was widely expected to succeed Tirso Cruz III. Reyes, a veteran filmmaker, expressed his feelings about the big responsibility that comes with the position.

In an exclusive interview, Reyes shared that he accepted the FDCP challenge primarily because of Tirso Cruz, who endorsed him for the role after resigning. Despite the endorsement, Reyes harbored no expectations due to the political nature of the appointment.

With this new responsibility, Reyes acknowledged that some sacrifices had to be made. He mentioned giving up his involvement in the Cinemalaya Film Festival and halting any new film projects to avoid conflicts of interest.

One of his first tasks as the new FDCP chief is to revamp the office and its policies. Reyes also mentioned preparations for the annual Parangal ng Sining to honor industry icons and the upcoming Cinemalaya and Metro Manila Film Festival anniversaries.

Additionally, Reyes confirmed plans to meet with First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos to discuss ways to sustain the Philippine movie industry and encourage the production of content with global appeal. He emphasized the importance of supporting the industry beyond box-office results and promoting diverse Filipino films.

Reyes expressed his commitment to ensuring fairness and equal treatment for all filmmakers, regardless of their background or status in the industry, as part of his leadership of the FDCP.
