Managing PCOS through Exercise



Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a complex hormonal condition that affects reproductive-aged women, according to Australia’s Better Health Channel. Healthline states that while PCOS cannot be permanently cured, proper treatment and practices can help women manage it effectively.

Global healthcare provider Aster DM Healthcare recommends specific exercises to regulate hormones that cause PCOS symptoms. PCOS is characterized by irregular periods, elevated levels of male hormones, and the development of small ovarian cysts. These cysts can raise insulin resistance, increasing the risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

Despite the prevalence of PCOS, with up to 70% of cases remaining undiagnosed, the exact cause of this condition remains unclear. However, regular exercise is highly beneficial for managing PCOS symptoms.

Aster DM Healthcare suggests aerobic activities, strength training, high-intensity interval training, and mind-body exercises to regulate PCOS. Examples include walking, cardio activities like running and swimming, strength training, core training, high-intensity interval training, and yoga.

An Aster DM Healthcare spokesperson emphasized the importance of exercise in managing PCOS symptoms, stating that regular physical activity can have widespread benefits beyond weight loss. It can boost insulin sensitivity, reduce the risk of diabetes, help regulate cholesterol and hormone levels, and improve overall well-being. Additionally, exercise increases endorphins, which can alleviate depression symptoms and enhance sleep quality.
