Chito Miranda of Parokya ni Edgar Ventures into Musical Territory

Alfonso “Chito” Miranda Jr., the lead vocalist and main songwriter of the iconic rock band Parokya ni Edgar (PNE), is exploring new horizons without compromising his peace of mind. Whether it’s delving into a new restaurant venture, investing in real estate with his wife Neri Naig, or embarking on musical projects, Miranda is all in as long as it doesn’t cause him stress.

One of his latest endeavors is the Parokya ni Edgar musical titled “Burugudunstuytugudunstuy,” a fresh production by the Full House Theater Company set to be showcased at the Newport Performing Arts Theater (NPAT) from April 26 to May 25.

Since the announcement last year about this musical, which follows the success of “Ang Huling El Bimbo,” Miranda has been flooded with inquiries from fans and media alike. Known for his witty banter and onstage antics during PNE live gigs, Miranda brings his signature charm and humor to every engagement.

The musical’s title, “Buruguduystunstugudunstuy,” has a whimsical backstory, with Miranda revealing that he coined it on a whim during a casual conversation with his bandmates. As the creative team weaves a narrative using PNE’s songs, Miranda expressed initial apprehension but was later impressed by the team’s vision.

Playwright Rody Vera, who crafted the story based on PNE’s discography, described the narrative as a unique journey akin to an acid trip. With the musical featuring an all-female lead cast, the creative team aims to surprise audiences with a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience.

During a media call, Miranda expressed his trust in the Full House creative team, emphasizing his role as an enthusiastic audience member rather than a meddling collaborator. As he witnessed a medley of PNE’s songs performed by the cast, Miranda was moved by the professional rendition of their beloved tracks.

Reflecting on PNE’s enduring success and camaraderie, Miranda highlighted the band’s friendship and simplistic approach to music as the keys to their longevity. While fans eagerly await new music from PNE, Miranda remains focused on enjoying the ride and avoiding unnecessary stress.

The musical promises to captivate audiences with its reimagining of PNE’s classic tunes, showcasing the band’s timeless appeal in a fresh theatrical setting. As Miranda continues to explore new horizons, his dedication to creating memorable experiences for fans remains unwavering.
