Senator urges NAIA and Iloilo airport to address air conditioning problems

A senator called on the managements of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and Iloilo International Airport to address their air conditioning system issues amid the ongoing heatwave in the country.

Senator Grace Poe, who chairs the Senate committee on public services, expressed concern over the malfunctioning air conditioning systems at NAIA and Iloilo airport, describing the situation as feeling like an oven inside the terminals.

According to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), two cooling towers at NAIA Terminal 3 stopped working, contributing to the discomfort experienced by passengers.

Poe also mentioned the need to repair faulty elevators at the airports and emphasized the importance of utilizing the budget allocated for repairs and maintenance.

As the hot weather persists due to the El Niño phenomenon and climate change, Poe urged all airports in the country to prioritize the maintenance of air conditioning, electricity, and other facilities to prevent breakdowns and accidents.

The state weather bureau PAGASA forecasts that the hot weather conditions will continue until mid-May, further underscoring the need for immediate action to address the airport’s cooling system issues.
