Is it the end of the line for Ancajas?

Ancajas suffers knockout loss against Inoue

TOKYO – Jerwin Ancajas experienced a devastating defeat on Saturday evening at the hands of Japanese fighter Takuma Inoue. The bout ended with Ancajas on the receiving end of a vicious body shot, leaving him on his knees and struggling for breath.

The Filipino boxer had hoped to redeem himself after two prior defeats to Argentina’s Fernando Martinez in 2022. Ancajas had aspired to become the new WBA bantamweight champion, but his dreams were dashed as he succumbed to defeat.

In the aftermath of the fight, Ancajas appeared dejected and disheartened in his dressing room. The former super-flyweight champion expressed a loss of confidence and morale following his knockout loss to Inoue, which marked the first knockout defeat of his career.

Despite the setback, Ancajas remains uncertain about his future in boxing. While his trainer and promoter, Sean Gibbons, offer reassurances of another chance at the world title, Ancajas is in search of regaining his lost confidence before committing to his next move.

Reflecting on the fight, Ancajas admitted to feeling a level of physical pain he had never before experienced in his career, particularly from the body shot delivered by Inoue. The defeat left Ancajas questioning his performance inside the ring and contemplating his next steps in the sport.

As he grapples with the aftermath of his loss, Ancajas contemplates whether to continue his boxing career or consider calling it quits.
