PGT Golf Tourney Set to Begin at Apo Golf Club with Professional Golfers Prepared for Showdown

The highly anticipated Philippine Golf Tour commenced at the Apo Golf and Country Club in Davao on Tuesday, March 12. Former champions, seasoned players, and rising talents are set to compete in the ICTSI Apo Golf Classic, with a prize of P2.5 million up for grabs.

The tournament features a strong lineup of golfers, including past Order of Merit winners like Tony Lascuña, Clyde Mondilla, Jobim Carlos, Elmer Salvador, Jay Bayron, and reigning champion Jhonnel Ababa. The challenging Apo golf course, known for its narrow fairways and tricky greens guarded by water hazards, will test the players’ skills over the next four days.

Local favorites such as Lascuña, Salvador, Bayron, and Ababa are eager to showcase their knowledge of the Apo course at the foothills of Mt. Apo. Despite acknowledging their slight advantage, Lascuña emphasized the tough competition, which includes promising young talents like Aidric Chan, the top graduate of the PGT Q-School.

The tournament promises excitement as players like Ira Alido, Rupert Zaragosa, Reymon Jaraula, and Frankie Miñoza compete for the championship. Notable names in the field also include Guido van der Valk, Michael Bibat, and Korean player Hyun Ho Rho.

With a mix of international players from Korea, Japan, and the US, the ICTSI Apo Golf Classic guarantees a competitive and thrilling event for golf enthusiasts. The Apo Classic is the first of two legs in Davao, with the ICTSI Palos Verdes Championship scheduled for March 19-22 at the Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club.
