Iloilo Coast Guard saves 7 fishermen

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) successfully rescued seven fishermen from a distressed fishing boat off the coast of San Joaquin town, Iloilo province on Saturday, January 13.

The PCG-Iloilo sub-station in Tigbauan town and its outpost in the municipality of Guimbal responded to a call for help from the fishing boat, which was located eight nautical miles off the southeast portion of San Joaquin.

The fishing boat had encountered engine trouble, prompting the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) of San Joaquin to report the incident to the PCG-Iloilo sub-station in Tigbauan.

Following the report, PCG teams from Tigbauan and Guimbal conducted a joint search and rescue operation. The fishermen, all residents of Barangay Nalundan, Guimbal, were safely rescued and the distressed boat was towed back to Barangay Cabubugan in Guimbal.

The successful rescue operation demonstrated the PCG’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of fishermen and seafarers in the province. The coordinated efforts of the PCG and local authorities played a crucial role in the safe return of the fishermen and the fishing boat.
