President Marcos approves DepEd’s basic education plan and other measures

The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board, chaired by President Marcos, recently approved three priority projects. These include a medium-term basic education plan and a higher project cost for a world-class cancer center at the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH).

President Marcos gave the go-ahead for the proposed Basic Education Development Plan (BEDP) 2030 and the MATATAG Agenda presented by Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte during the NEDA board meeting at Malacañang. Marcos emphasized the importance of these proposals for the education system and approved them without objection.

The MATATAG Agenda focuses on making the curriculum relevant, accelerating the delivery of basic education facilities and services, promoting learner well-being and inclusive education, providing a positive learning environment, and supporting teachers for better teaching. These agendas align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 4 on education and are consistent with the country’s development plans.

Additionally, the NEDA Board approved the request to revise the parameters, terms, and conditions of the UP-PGH Cancer Center Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Project. President Marcos expressed support for the revision, as long as the project remains economically viable for both the government and the private sector.

The meeting also saw the approval of the NEDA Board-Investment Coordination Committee Guidelines on the Review and Approval of National PPP Proposals. President Marcos also defended Education Secretary Sara Duterte amid calls for her resignation, stating that Cabinet members will only be removed if they are inefficient or corrupt.
