44 areas face dangerous heat index on April 27

State weather bureau PAGASA has issued a warning that the heat index in 44 areas across the country is expected to reach dangerous levels on Saturday.

The heat index, which takes into account both humidity and air temperature to determine how hot it actually feels, will classify several areas as “dangerous” with temperatures ranging from 42°C to 48°C.

Among the areas expected to experience high heat index values are Dagupan City, Pangasinan, with temperatures potentially reaching 48°C. These extreme temperatures, classified as “dangerous,” increase the risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke.

Many parts of the country are under “extreme caution” due to temperatures ranging from 33°C to 41°C. To avoid heat-related illnesses, the public is advised to limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and avoid certain beverages.

PAGASA also recommends using umbrellas, hats, caps, and wearing long sleeves when outside. Planning intense activities for cooler times of the day is also advised to mitigate the effects of the scorching heat.
