A Woman Arrested in Lopez, Quezon for Using Counterfeit Currency
On Saturday morning, December 23, a woman from Cavite was arrested in Lopez, Quezon for attempting to pay with fake currency at a local store in the public market. The 44-year-old suspect paid 70-year-old businesswoman Angeles Ballesteros with a fake P1,000 bill for two packs of all-purpose cream.
Ballesteros sought police assistance and the suspect was apprehended at the victim’s store. Upon an incidental search, the suspect was found to be in possession of 12 more counterfeit P1,000 bills with serial number K589110.
The suspect is facing charges for violating Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code for illegal possession and use of false treasury banks or bank notes and other instruments of credit.
Police are reminding the public to be vigilant against counterfeit money, especially during this Christmas season.
