Forthsky Padrigao, filled with remorse, aspires for a fresh beginning in UST

Embattled guard Forthsky Padrigao has found a new home in the University of Santo Tomas (UST), signaling a fresh start for both his life and basketball career. Fr. Rodel Cansancio, OP, the school’s athletic director, confirmed the news, stating that the 21-year-old court general has enrolled in UST’s Institute of Physical Education and Athletics (IPEA) and has already participated in practices with the Growling Tigers.

Padrigao, who left Ateneo last August, approached UST seeking a second chance and the opportunity for reparation. Recognizing their role as a Catholic school, UST decided to offer Padrigao support and help him reform his ways.

Cansancio revealed that Padrigao has not only focused on his on-court performance but has also sought guidance counseling and expressed a desire to engage in the school’s outreach programs. This demonstrates his commitment to learning from the controversies he was involved in and making amends for his past actions.

Despite Padrigao’s undeniable playmaking prowess, being the runner-up in the UAAP Season 86 MVP race and earning a place in the Mythical Team, he will still have to prove himself to UST coach Pido Jarencio. However, Cansancio emphasized that the priority for Padrigao is to regain stability in his life before he can fully redeem himself on the basketball court.

Padrigao, a former national youth team member from Zamboanga, still has two more years of eligibility with the Growling Tigers, starting from UAAP Season 87. UST is hopeful that they can assist him in his journey towards personal and athletic growth.

“Obviously, he’s a talented player, but if he really wants to atone for his past mistakes, UST will be there to help him in this journey,” said Cansancio, highlighting the university’s commitment to supporting Padrigao in his quest for redemption.
