Filipina Jiu-jitsu Fighter Dani Palanca Takes Home Gold in AJP Tokyo Grand Slam

In a stunning display of skill and determination, Filipina jiu-jitsu fighter Dani Palanca emerged victorious in the recent AJP Tokyo Grand Slam in Japan, claiming the top spot in the -49-kilogram purple belt category.

Palanca’s remarkable win came after an intense final match against Aysha Abdulla Zuwaid Alshamsi of the United Arab Emirates. With this victory, she now shares the pole position of the women’s professional purple 23-24 level with Japan’s Yuka Okutommi, both accumulating 2,000 points.

Before clinching the title, the Atos International warrior defeated Australian Anna Wang in the quarterfinals and triumphed over Buyanjargal Nasanjargal of Mongolia in the semifinals. Nutchaya Sugun of Thailand secured the bronze medal in the same category.

In addition to Palanca’s achievement, Alphonso Raphael Morales of Alliance International secured a silver medal in the men’s gi brown belt category (-56kg), while David Mendoza of Lucas Lepri Philippines landed in fourth place in the men’s -120kg.

Palanca’s win is not only a testament to her skill and dedication as a fighter, but also a source of pride for the Filipino jiu-jitsu community. Her performance in the AJP Tokyo Grand Slam showcases the talent and potential of Filipino athletes on the international stage.
