Rookies Poyos of UST and Dongallo of UE take part in an intense duel



UST’s Poyos leads Tigresses past UE and fellow super rookie Dongallo in UAAP women’s volleyball

In an exciting battle of super rookies, University of Santo Tomas’ Angeline Poyos outshone Casiey Dongallo of University of the East as the Tigresses secured a four-set victory over the Lady Red Warriors in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday night.

Poyos, who had 24 points from 19 attacks, two blocks, and three service aces, led UST to a 18-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-22 win over UE. Meanwhile, Dongallo contributed 23 markers with 22 attacks and a block, showcasing their offensive prowess and volleyball maturity.

Both players had nothing but praises for each other after the game. Poyos acknowledged Dongallo’s skills, saying, “I could say that skill-wise, she is very good.” On the other hand, Dongallo commended Poyos, noting that despite her smaller height, she is “really a great player” and a “strong competitor.”

Poyos also expressed satisfaction with her performance in the tournament so far, highlighting her contribution to UST’s back-to-back wins. She is determined to stay consistent in the upcoming games, as UST is set to face defending champion La Salle on Sunday.
