Late miscues cause Ardina’s rally to fizzle out

On February 25, 2024, Dottie Ardina missed out on a chance to win the LPGA of Taiwan Tour crown after a late-round struggle at the Foxconn TLPGA Players Championship at the Orient Golf and Country Club in Taoyuan City.

Despite a strong push and pulling within three shots of the lead, Ardina bogeyed two of the last three holes to finish with a 73 and end up joint seventh in the tournament.

Japanese player Haruka Kawasaki managed to clinch the championship with a five-over 77 for a total score of 286, edging out local bet Yu Sang Hou by one shot. Rio Takeda from Japan finished tied for second with Hou at 287 after a late rally.

Ardina, who was seven shots off the lead heading into the final round, made a valiant effort but ultimately fell short, finishing joint seventh at 289. Japanese player Serena Aoki aced a hole on her way to a 71, while other players like Sayaka Takahashi, Kokona Sakurai, and Taiwanese Ssu Chia Cheng finished tied with Ardina.

Kawasaki, who was in control of the tournament, faltered in the final round but managed to hold on for the victory despite a late surge from Takeda and Hou. Korean Jin Hee Im rallied with a 70 to finish tied for fourth with Saiki Fujita of Japan and local player Yu Ju Chen.

Ardina, who had a promising start with a birdie on the first hole, was unable to capitalize on opportunities and ultimately fell short in her title drive at the TLPGA event.
