Puerto Princesa Set to Host International Dragon Boat World Championships

Thrilling dragon boat races are set to take place in Puerto Princesa as the city welcomes the International Canoe Federation Dragon Boat World Championships from Oct. 28 to Nov. 4.

Paddlers from all around the world will gather for this weeklong event, which also serves as a qualifying competition for next year’s World Games in Chengdu, China.

The city, known for its stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage, is pulling out all the stops to ensure a successful event. Mayor Lucilo Rodriguez Bayron expressed his excitement about hosting an event of this magnitude, emphasizing the city’s commitment to success.

A delegation from the ICF, led by president Thomas Konietzko, visited the site and approved of the preparations, praising Puerto Princesa’s dedication to environmental conservation. Konietzko highlighted the importance of the event in promoting both competition and cultural exchange.

Philippine Canoe Kayak Dragonboat Federation (PCKDF) president Leonora Escollante echoed the country’s enthusiasm for hosting the championships, emphasizing the beauty and hospitality of the Philippines. As the official national sport association for water paddle sports in the country, PCKDF is dedicated to ensuring the success of the event.

Medals will be awarded in various categories and distances, promising an exciting and memorable experience for all participants.
