9 horses competing in the PSA Cup

The Philippine Racing Commission (Philracom) will be organizing a charity race called the Philippine Sportswriters Association Cup at the Metro Manila Turf Club, Inc.’s ground in Malvar, Batangas on Sunday, Sept. 17. The race will feature several prominent horses, including Red Sole, Vavavoom, and Top of the Line.

With a guaranteed prize worth P300,000, including P150,000 and a trophy for the winner, the Class 4 (22-27) nine-horse 1.4-kilometer race seeks to benefit the PSA. Horse enthusiasts and sports fans alike are eagerly looking forward to the event.

Apart from the PSA Cup, Philracom, under the leadership of President Reli de Leon, is also devoting another race for the New Philippine Jockeys’ Association. This initiative aims to support and promote the growth of jockeys in the country.

The decision to hold the PSA Cup was finalized through a letter sent to PSA President and The Philippine STAR sports editor Nelson Beltran by Philracom’s acting executive director Ronaldo Corpuz. In the letter, Corpuz stated that the amount donated to the PSA would depend on the race’s gross betting sales from the Metro Manila Turf Club, Inc.

This is not the first time that Philracom has organized charity races. In the past, they held five races for the Philippine team that participated in the Southeast Asian Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. These races were conducted in collaboration with the Philippine Sports Commission and benefited approximately 800 athletes.

With the upcoming PSA Cup, the racing community is excited to come together and contribute to a worthy cause. The event promises an exciting race along with the opportunity to support the development of sports journalism in the Philippines.
