Ateneo Coach’s Aspirations Extend Beyond Basketball to Nurturing Respectable Professionals

Ateneo Blue Eagles head coach Tab Baldwin is determined to build championship-winning teams and prepare his players for successful professional careers. After a thrilling 70-69 victory over the Japan U-21 team, Baldwin emphasized the university’s role in molding professionals.

Baldwin, who has led the Blue Eagles to five out of the past six UAAP championships, expressed pride in his players, particularly BJ Andrade and Ange Kouame. He believes they are ready to take the next step in their careers and become more effective players.

Kouame, currently part of the Gilas Pilipinas national team, is being prepared for a potential career in European basketball. Baldwin acknowledges that he still has room for improvement, but he sees a bright future for Kouame if he decides to pursue that path.

Andrade, on the other hand, is on the road to recovery after suffering an ACL tear earlier this year. Baldwin praised Andrade’s versatile skills and believes that professional coaches will appreciate his abilities. The guard is even considering applying for the PBA Draft next month.

Despite losing Forthsky Padrigao due to academic and personal issues, Baldwin remains confident in his formidable roster. With players like Kai Ballungay, Geo Chiu, and Joseph Obasa, the Eagles are favored to win in the upcoming UAAP Season 86.

However, Baldwin acknowledges that there are still many competitive teams out there and the Blue Eagles will have to work hard to secure another championship.

Overall, Baldwin’s focus remains on creating successful professional players while leading Ateneo to victory on the court.
