Phivolcs reports 5.1 magnitude earthquake shakes Davao Oriental



A 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck Davao Oriental on Thursday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The quake’s epicenter was located 63 kilometers northeast of Banganga, Davao Oriental, with a tectonic origin at around 5:39 AM, as reported in Phivolcs’ initial bulletin.

State seismologists noted that the earthquake registered at Intensity I in the City of Bislig, Surigao del Sur, and an Instrumental Intensity I was recorded in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro.

Phivolcs assured the public that no damage is expected from this earthquake, but residents should be prepared for possible aftershocks.
