Fugitive Killed in Shootout with Police in Aurora

CAUAYAN CITY, Isabela – A fugitive, identified as Godwindel Sardea, was killed in a firefight with the police in Barangay Ditumabo, San Luis, Aurora on Wednesday, October 4.

Police Major Donnafe Galban, the public information officer of the Aurora Police Provincial Office, confirmed that Sardea, 25, from Barangay Nonong Senior, San Luis, had been evading authorities due to several pending cases against him. These cases included the violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Acts of 2002, as well as Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearm and Ammunition Regulation Act. Sardea had managed to escape from the Aurora Provincial Jail on July 28.

Galban stated that Sardea was considered “armed and dangerous” by the police, as he was also a suspect in a murder incident that occurred in Barangay Nonong Senior last September.

Following his escape, police were able to trace Sardea to a core house located in Barangay Ditumabo. Law enforcement officers made attempts to convince Sardea to surrender peacefully. However, Sardea opened fire on the police officers who defended themselves and eventually neutralized the suspect.

The police have launched a thorough investigation into the incident to gather more details surrounding the fugitive’s activities during his time on the run.
