Parañaque LGU and DILG will conduct compulsory training for elected SK officials

The Parañaque City government and the Department of Interior and Local Government will conduct a mandatory training program for the newly-elected Sangguniang Kabataan officials. According to Parañaque Mayor Eric Olivarez, the training for the 128 youths who won in the recent Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Election (BSKE) will be held on Thursday, Nov. 9 at Max’s restaurant in Sucat Road, Barangay San Antonio at 8:00 a.m. before they assume their post.

The training will focus on the role of the officials in nation-building and molding them into better citizens with values of patriotism, nationalism, and honor. This is in line with Republic Act 10742, also known as the “Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act,” which requires winning candidates to undergo and successfully complete a mandatory training administered by the DILG.

Mayor Olivarez emphasized that the training will strengthen and empower the Sangguniang Kabataan as a useful conduit in community development. It will also tackle the role of the youth in nation-building and encourage their involvement in public and civic affairs through effective, responsive, and enabling mechanisms in forging youth participation in local governance.
