Marcos calls on Filipinos to stand up against contemporary oppressors



In a recent event commemorating the 503rd anniversary of the Victory at Mactan in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, President Marcos urged Filipinos, particularly the youth, to embrace the patriotism of Lapu-Lapu and stand up against modern-day oppressors. The President laid a wreath at Lapu-Lapu’s monument and witnessed a re-enactment of the Battle of Mactan.

During his speech, Marcos highlighted the valor and bravery of Lapu-Lapu and his men, emphasizing the importance of upholding their ideals in building a “Bagong Pilipinas” rooted in liberty and freedom. He called on the youth to combat contemporary oppressors like greed, selfishness, and divisiveness.

The President commended the performers at the Liberty Shrine and emphasized the need for a united front against today’s challenges, such as hunger and poverty. He reiterated the Filipino’s commitment to defending the country and standing up against conquerors.

Among those present at the event were Speaker Martin Romualdez, Special Assistant to the President Anton Lagdameo, Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan, Lapu-Lapu City Lone District Rep. Cindi Chan, and National Historical Commission of the Philippines chair Lisa Guerrero Nakpil.

As the ceremony concluded, local officials presented Marcos with a miniature statue of Lapu-Lapu, and the President posed for photos with guests before departing for another engagement in Lapu-Lapu City.
