Dalipe shares reasons for backing a Romualdez presidential candidacy

House Speaker Martin Romualdez denies presidential aspirations, receives support from Deputy Majority Leader Mannix Dalipe

In a recent cable news interview, House Deputy Majority Leader Zamboanga City 2nd district Rep. Mannix Dalipe expressed his support for House Speaker Martin Romualdez in the event that Romualdez decides to run for the presidency in 2028.

Dalipe stated, “Oh, why not. I would support him if he decided to run,” emphasizing Romualdez’s qualities as a “very good Speaker” and “hardworking one as Speaker.” However, Dalipe also noted that the 2028 elections are still “five years from now” and Romualdez has not expressed any intention of running for president.

Romualdez himself has reiterated that he is currently focused on his role as Speaker and serving the needs of the nation, stating that his “focus is on the present responsibilities and not on future electoral possibilities.” This comes after former president Rodrigo Duterte advised Vice President Sara Duterte not to run for the presidency in 2028 and instead let Romualdez run the country.

Romualdez and Dalipe both belong to the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) party, further solidifying their political alliance. Despite Dalipe’s expressed support, Romualdez has continued to deny any presidential aspirations at this time.
