Muchova will not compete in the Australian Open due to a wrist injury

Czech tennis player Karolina Muchova has announced that she will be skipping the 2023 Australian Open due to a persistent wrist injury. This comes after the injury also ruled her out of the 2022 WTA Finals.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the world number eight expressed her disappointment at having to postpone the start of the season in order to fully heal her wrist. Muchova injured her right wrist at the US Open in September, where she reached the semifinals.

The 27-year-old had a successful season in 2022, reaching the French Open final and climbing the WTA rankings from 149th to eighth place. She also achieved her best result at the Australian Open in 2021, reaching the semifinals.

Despite the setback, Muchova remains positive and is determined to recover and prepare for the rest of the year, setting her sights on the 2025 Australian Open.
