Clarkson reflects on his Gilas journey as he anticipates a decade in the NBA

Jordan Clarkson, the Filipino-American guard, recently reflected on his enjoyable experience representing the Philippines during the off-season. Clarkson, who played for the national team Gilas Pilipinas in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, expressed his gratitude towards Filipino fans for their support.

During a Utah Jazz Media Availability press conference, Clarkson, entering his 10th year in the NBA, shared his appreciation for the love he received from Filipino fans while wearing the country’s colors in the global event. Despite wanting to win more games, Clarkson described the opportunity to represent the Philippines as a fun experience.

Clarkson showcased his NBA skills during the World Cup, averaging 26 points per game, with a standout performance of 31 points against China in Gilas’ final game of the tournament. Despite the team finishing with a 1-4 record, Clarkson’s efforts were not in vain, as Filipino fans continued to celebrate him throughout the event. He acknowledged that other NBA players also received immense love and recognition from Filipino fans during the World Cup.

The veteran guard emphasized the indescribable energy and supportive atmosphere in the Philippines, particularly for basketball. He noted that both NBA players and athletes from other countries experienced the overwhelming reception from admirers. Clarkson expressed his love for representing the Philippines internationally and mentioned that he would have liked to spend more time in the country if not for his commitments in the US.

“I love being able to represent and show the love back. When I go there and spend much time over there, I was there for a month and a half, could have been more but I got some stuff to do over here,” said Clarkson.

Clarkson’s dedication and passion for playing for the Philippines have made him a beloved figure among Filipino basketball fans. As he enters his 10th year in the NBA, Clarkson continues to strive for success both in the league and on the international stage.
