President Marcos Calls for Nationwide Clean-Up Program

President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. has urged all newly elected Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials to participate in a nationwide clean-up program. The initiative, part of the Kalinisan sa Bagong Pilipinas program, aims to raise awareness and encourage participation among Filipino citizens on environmental responsibility through proper solid waste management.

The President’s call to action came in a message for the “National Community Development Day” on Saturday, Jan. 6. In his message, he emphasized the importance of the “Bayanihan Spirit” to address the issue of pollution and waste management to achieve a healthier and safer environment.

The program will simultaneously be held in all barangays nationwide, with a focus on cleaning up streets, canals, other waterways, public markets, schools, and public parks. Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos stated that the event will take place from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Jan. 6.

Additionally, the administration will encourage beneficiaries of Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) and students and teachers in public schools and state universities and colleges to participate in the program.

President Marcos emphasized that the National Community Development Day underscores the timeless ideals that community development desires to achieve. He called on all interested volunteers and civil society organizations to join the activities.
