The Smashing Pumpkins Seek Additional Guitarist

The influential alt rockers, The Smashing Pumpkins, are on the hunt for a new guitarist to join their ranks as they prepare for an upcoming European tour with Weezer and a stadium tour with Green Day, Rancid, and Linda Lindas. The band, known for hits like “Cherub Rock” and “Tonight, Tonight,” announced that they are accepting applications from anyone interested in joining the band.

Jeff Schroeder, who had been playing with the band since 2007, recently announced his departure, leaving a spot open for a new guitarist. The band, originally formed in the late 1980s in Chicago, has seen a resurgence in recent years with founding member Billy Corgan leading the way. Along with Corgan, original members James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin have also rejoined the band over the past decade.

The Smashing Pumpkins are inviting potential candidates to send in their resumes and “related material” for consideration. The band is looking to round out their sound with a fourth member ahead of their upcoming tours. The European tour with Weezer is set to launch on June 7 in Birmingham, England, followed by the Saviors stadium tour which is slated to begin on July 29.
