On Wednesday, 18 regions set to reach dangerous heat index levels



Eighteen areas in the Philippines are expected to reach a dangerous heat index level on Wednesday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

The areas forecasted to have heat indexes of 42 degrees Celsius and above include Virac (Synop), Catanduanes; Roxas City, Capiz; Guian, Eastern Samar; Aborlan, Palawan; Cuyo, Palawan; Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Bacnotan, La Union; Alabat, Quezon; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Masbate City, Masbate; Iloilo City, Iloilo; Dumangas, Iloilo; Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur; Central Luzon State University (CLSU) Muñoz, Nueva Ecija; Legazpi City, Albay; Central Bicol State University of Agriculture- Pili, Camarines Sur; and Cotabato City, Maguindanao.

Pagasa also noted that the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) in Pasay City and the Science Garden in Quezon City are expected to have a heat index of 41 degrees Celsius.

Under a dangerous heat index category, health problems such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke can occur. Pagasa advised the public to take precautions such as staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activities, and wearing heat-protective clothing.
