Introducing Checkpoints for Village Polls in Caraga



Police, military, and coast guard launched checkpoints for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in Butuan City on August 28. The initiative was led by PRO-13 Director Police Brig. Gen. Kirby John B. Kraft, Comelec-13 Director Francisco G. Pobe, 23rd Infantry Battalion (IB) commanding officer Lt. Col. Jeffrey A. Balingao, and PCG-Caraga commander John Alfwell B. Saarenas.

The provincial police deployed 158 officers to Comelec hubs, where candidates are filing their Certificates of Candidacy. An additional 224 officers were assigned to secure the transportation of Comelec logistics. Furthermore, PRO-13 has stationed 75 law enforcement officers at border control points and deployed 1,018 as Quick Response Teams. On Election Day, 2,698 police officers will be assigned to 1,349 polling centers across the region. Checkpoints have been strategically established in areas of concern.

Police Brig. Gen. Kirby John B. Kraft ordered all mobile force commanders, police directors, and chiefs of police to strictly enforce election laws while respecting human rights. He emphasized the importance of clearly communicating the purpose of the checkpoints to the public, which is to ensure security and maintain order.

In addition, the election period marks the implementation of a gun ban based on Comelec Resolution No. 10918, which prohibits the bearing, carrying, and transporting of firearms and other deadly weapons, except for those with Certificates of Authority from the Comelec.
