Online Classes Implemented in All Schools by Los Baños LGU

LOS BAÑOS, LAGUNA— Due to the extreme heat currently being experienced in the area, the local government of Los Baños in Laguna has issued a directive for all schools and universities to shift to online classes or adopt modular learning from Monday to Tuesday.

In an advisory posted on Sunday evening, the local government unit (LGU) stated, “Because of the extreme heat, all private and public schools are ordered not to implement face-to-face classes to ensure the safety of students.” It also advised the public to stay indoors, drink plenty of water, and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.

This decision comes as the Department of Education (DepEd) instructed public schools nationwide to implement asynchronous learning mode during the same period, citing extreme heat and the upcoming transport strike by Piston as reasons for the shift.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), several areas, including Iba in Zambales, have reached dangerous heat index levels, with temperatures exceeding 52°C. Pagasa’s officer in charge of Climatology and Agrometeorology Division warned that such extreme temperatures could lead to heatstroke, especially for those exposed directly to sunlight.

Furthermore, Piston announced a nationwide strike from April 29 to May 1 in protest of the franchise consolidation deadline set for April 30. The strike is expected to affect transportation services during this period.

As the heatwave continues to impact various parts of the country, authorities advise the public to take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses.
