“Here Lies Love” Musical Earns Four Nominations at 2024 Tony Awards

The Broadway musical “Here Lies Love,” depicting the life of former First Lady Imelda Marcos, has received four nominations for the 2024 Tony Awards. The musical, based on the story of Marcos’s rise and fall, was recognized in categories such as Best Original Score, Best Scenic Design of a Musical, Best Choreography, and Best Sound.

Co-written by Fatboy Slim and David Byrne, the musical was inspired by a video showing Imelda Marcos dancing with arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi. The nominations were announced on the official Tony Awards website on April 30.

“Here Lies Love,” which features mostly Filipino performers, recently concluded its Broadway run with reports of low ticket sales. Actresses Lea Salonga and Vina Morales took on the role of Aurora Aquino, the mother of the late lawmaker Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., during different runs of the production.

The musical’s official Instagram account celebrated the nominations and milestones reached by the production. Fans and theater enthusiasts eagerly await the results of the upcoming Tony Awards ceremony.
