Young participants shine in IRONKIDS event



IRONKIDS Philippines to be held at Ramon V. Mitra Sports Complex in Puerto Princesa on Saturday

The future of local triathlon showcased their talent ahead of the elite pack of international triathletes. This was done as they competed for top honors in the IRONKIDS Philippines event on Saturday, November 11 at the Ramon V. Mitra Sports Complex in Puerto Princesa. The event kicked off the centerpiece IRONMAN 70.3 Puerto Princesa on Sunday, November 12.

The IRONKIDS event featured 125 kids competing in a swim and run event. The competition offered four individual titles, and it promised to be an enjoyable yet competitive experience for youngsters aged 6-15. The competition included different distances for different age groups, ranging from 100m to 2km.

In addition, relay trophies were up for grabs in two categories. These were the mixed team for 11-15 years old and the mixed team for 6-10, both with their specific swim and run distances.

The event commenced at different times depending on the age groups, starting as early as 6 a.m. for 13-15-year-olds. The event aims to develop triathlon talents and commendable values among the participants while promoting an active lifestyle. The IRONMAN 70.3 Puerto Princesa witnessed the Princesa Run, a 5K fun run event, beginning the weekend.

John Alcala, the defending champion of the IM 70.3, was looking forward to the race with high spirits and a sense of purpose. The competition included a strong field of international participants from 38 other countries.

Moving forward, IRONMAN 70.3 Puerto Princesa will be the first-time host to the Asia TriClub and Relay Championship, offering a $500,000 purse for the winning triathlon club. The event will also be sponsored by the IRONMAN Group and will have various endorsements from sponsors.

The event will also include Tri SND Barracuda, Gas Coaching, Las Vegas Tri Club, Heroes Hotel Adventure, Army Navy Southtri, Loolaba Tri Club, and Les Sables Vendee as part of the roster.

Next year’s IRONMAN 70.3 in Cebu and Davao RLC will be the title sponsor. This year the event was supported by a variety of local and international brands.
