What sets the ‘Severino’ series apart from the film adaptation?

A new biopic series is in the works, featuring actor Dennis Trillo as the controversial 1800s Filipino priest Severino Mallari, known as the first and only documented serial killer in the Philippines. The project is being produced by Jon Verzosa under CreaZion Studios, with a streaming platform already securing the rights to showcase it.

Verzosa expressed excitement about the project, highlighting its focus on the factual story of Severino’s life from 1816 to the 1840s. Set apart from Derick Cabrido’s film “Mallari,” the biopic delves into Severino’s personal struggles and explores the circumstances that led to his dark deeds.

While details about the director remain confidential, Verzosa teased that the series will offer unique perspectives on Severino Mallari that have not been explored before. He also mentioned that additional research was conducted to ensure accuracy and depth in the storytelling, with some fictional elements included to enhance the narrative.

In addition to the biopic, CreaZion is engaged in other projects, such as adapting the Korean romantic-comedy film “All About My Wife” for a Filipino audience and developing a family drama for the Metro Manila Film Festival. The production company is also exploring opportunities in talent management and film distribution, with plans to expand its creative endeavors throughout 2024.

Verzosa highlighted the company’s recent participation in film markets in Korea and upcoming plans for the Hong Kong International Film & TV Market. Additionally, CreaZion is nurturing relationships with emerging talents like Dolly de Leon and Chai Fonacier, who are making waves in the international film scene with their respective projects.
