Best Current Affairs Program in ContentAsia Awards 2023 awarded to ‘Mata sa Dilim’



GMA Public Affairs’ Award-Winning Documentary “Mata sa Dilim” Recognized at ContentAsia Awards

The acclaimed documentary program “The Atom Araullo Specials,” produced by GMA Public Affairs, has once again brought pride to the Philippines by winning the “Best Current Affairs Programme made in Asia for Regional Asia and/or International Markets” at the prestigious ContentAsia Awards. The winning documentary, “Mata sa Dilim,” sheds light on the alarming rise of online sexual abuse and exploitation of children, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

First aired in 2022, “Mata sa Dilim” delves into the silent pandemic of online child sex abuse, revealing the worsening cases that have emerged during these challenging times. The documentary has garnered critical acclaim for its powerful storytelling and impactful advocacy.

The award was received by The Atom Araullo Specials Executive Producer Ian Simbulan on behalf of the program and GMA Network. In his acceptance speech, Simbulan expressed gratitude and dedication to the survivors of online child sexual abuse and the tireless advocates who fight against this heinous crime. He emphasized that the work to combat online child sex abuse continues.

This is not the first recognition for “Mata sa Dilim.” Earlier this year, the documentary also received a Gold medal in the Documentary: Social Issues category at the 2023 New York Festivals TV & Film (NYF) Awards, further solidifying its status as a groundbreaking documentary tackling a pressing social issue.

The ContentAsia Awards ceremony took place on August 24 in Bangkok, Thailand. The event, which recognized winners from 12 countries representing TV broadcast and production leaders, streamers, and online platforms, was broadcast via live streaming. The victory of “Mata sa Dilim” at the ContentAsia Awards showcases the documentary’s remarkable impact on both regional and international audiences.
