Naga Edsa anniversary rally continues despite plaza ban

Protest rally held in Naga City on Edsa anniversary

Despite initial obstacles, a protest rally commemorating the 38th anniversary of the Edsa People Power Revolution was successfully held in Naga City on Sunday. The rally, organized by Bayan Camarines Sur and other progressive groups, took place at Plaza Quince Martires after the city government initially planned to occupy all public plazas for their own activities.

The rally featured various groups voicing out concerns specific to their sectors, such as the transport sector’s opposition to the government’s plans for modernization and consolidation of public utility jeepneys. Additionally, representatives from different regions also joined the protest rally to denounce Charter Change, with one member emphasizing the need to reject it for the benefit of the Filipino people.

While the Naga City police expressed their support for the protesters’ constitutional rights, they were not present in Plaza Quince Martires as they held a separate event nearby. The city government also conducted its own event at the front of the Freedom Monument to commemorate the Edsa revolution, emphasizing the importance of unity and democracy in achieving a better future.

Overall, the protest rally in Naga City served as a demonstration of the enduring spirit of democracy among the citizens of Camarines Sur and Naga City.
