Lionel Messi Shines with Inter Miami in Win Over Orlando City

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida— Lionel Messi, the Argentine forward, continues to impress with his goal-scoring abilities as he adapts to his new team. Messi scored in his third consecutive game and delivered a stunning multi-goal performance for Inter Miami in a 3-1 victory over Orlando City on Wednesday night.

Inter Miami coach Tata Martino praised Messi’s impact on the team, saying, “Something I said early on when we started, with him the most difficult things have become easier. But we are talking about a player that at the highest level of competition scores 40 goals a season.”

The Leagues Cup Round of 32 match was delayed for 95 minutes due to thunderstorms, but Messi wasted no time making an impact. He found the back of the net just seven minutes into the game and later scored his second goal in the 72nd minute. With five goals in three games since his MLS debut, Messi has quickly become a key player for Inter Miami.

His first goal showcased his skill and precision as he controlled a pass with his chest, dribbled into the 6-yard box, and finished with a shot that went under the crossbar. Although Orlando City managed to equalize, Messi once again proved his worth when he received a pass from Josef Martinez and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to give Inter Miami a 3-1 lead.

Martino emphasized that Messi’s performance is not surprising, stating, “He’s been doing the same for 17-18 years… He said he was coming here to compete and win. He is fulfilling what he said.”

The victory propels Inter Miami to the tournament Round of 16, where they will face Dallas FC. However, there was a moment of concern when Orlando’s Mauricio Pereyra collided with Messi early in the second half. Messi stayed on the ground, favoring his jaw for a couple of minutes but continued playing.

Messi received his first yellow card with Inter Miami after committing a hard foul in the 21st minute. Additionally, his former Barcelona teammate Jordi Alba made his debut for Inter Miami in the 64th minute.

Despite the delay caused by thunderstorms, Messi and his teammates remained focused and determined. He has already demonstrated his prowess in the previous Leagues Cup matches, scoring crucial goals against Cruz Azul and Atlanta United.

Overall, Messi’s impact on Inter Miami has been undeniable, and fans are eagerly awaiting his future performances.
