Hoffman and Frank set new records for sprinting in PH

Filipina sprinters Lauren Hoffman and Angel Frank made history at the 2024 Clemson Bob Pollock Invitational in South Carolina this past weekend, breaking Philippine records in their respective events.

Hoffman, 24, clocked in at 53.91 seconds in the women’s 400m category, securing a third-place finish and shattering Kayla Richardson’s 54.94 mark set in 2020 in Albuquerque, USA. “My teammates and I intend to make that record even faster but I’m still gonna celebrate this achievement for now! All season long I’ll be celebrating small wins, big wins, and everything in between,” Hoffman wrote on her Facebook page.

Meanwhile, Frank, although settling for 8th place, also made headlines with her 23.86-second performance in the 200-meter race, surpassing Zion Corrales-Nelson’s 23.90 record.

Both Hoffman and Frank represented the Philippines at the 19th Hangzhou Asian Games last September alongside Robyn Brown and Maureen Schrijvers. Hoffman also set the women’s 600m record in the Hokie Invitational, clocking in at 1 minute and 30.33 seconds, breaking Daniel Quintero’s record of 1:36.93 set in 2020.

The Virginia-native sprinter finished behind Maya Singletary (52.34) and Clemson’s Ken’naria Gadson (53.69), who secured first and second places, respectively. Both athletes are determined to continue creating history and achieving success in their respective events.
