Barangay Ginebra Secures Twice-to-Beat Incentive in Commissioner’s Cup Quarterfinals After Edging Out NLEX

In a thrilling matchup in Legazpi City, Albay on Saturday, Jan. 13, Tony Bishop of Barangay Ginebra nailed a clutch three-pointer to secure a 103-99 victory over NLEX in the 2033-’24 PBA Commissioner’s Cup. This win guaranteed Ginebra a twice-to-beat incentive in the upcoming quarterfinals.

The game was a tight contest, with the Road Warriors putting up a strong fight in the closing moments. However, Bishop’s crucial three-pointer against the shot clock put the Kings ahead, 101-97, ultimately sealing the win and their place in the Top 4.

Ginebra finished the elimination round with an impressive 8-3 win-loss record, tying with Meralco. However, the team secured the incentive due to a superior quotient.

Tony Bishop was the standout performer for Ginebra, contributing 27 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists. Christian Standhardinger, Jamie Malonzo, Maverick Ahanmisi, and Stanley Pringle also made significant contributions to the team’s victory.

Meanwhile, DeAndre Williams-Baldwin put up a valiant effort for NLEX, scoring 27 points and grabbing 14 rebounds in a losing cause.

Despite the loss, NLEX, now with a 4-7 slate, remains in contention for a playoff spot. The team’s fate now hinges on the outcome of TNT’s final game against Phoenix, as they hope for a chance to secure the eighth and final spot in the playoffs.
