20 of Marcos’ priority bills pass Senate in June, says Zubiri

The Senate is aiming to pass 20 new priority bills under the Common Legislative Agenda of the Legislative Executive Development Advisory Council (CLA-Ledac) before the 19th Congress’ second regular session ends in June. Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri expressed confidence that the Senate can pass these measures before the session ends, with some bills already nearing enactment into law.

One of the measures, the Philippine Ecosystem and Natural Capital Accounting System (PENCAS) Act, is ready for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s signature. This act provides a framework for accounting for the country’s natural capital and its economic impact.

Zubiri also mentioned that the bicameral report on the Philippine Maritime Zones Act and the measure establishing the Negros Island Region have been ratified and are in the process of enrollment.

Additionally, three priority measures – the E-Government/E-Governance Act, the Department of Water Resources Act, and the Konektadong Pinoy Act – are pending at the committee level. The Corporate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprises Maximize Opportunities for Reinvigorating the Economy Bill has been transmitted to the Senate.

The Senate aims to deliberate and pass these bills before adjourning sine die on May 24. With multiple bills in various stages of approval, the senators are working towards fulfilling their commitment to legislative development.
