K-pop Star G-Dragon to Establish Foundation After Being Cleared of Drug Use Allegations

After being cleared by the police of any suspicion of illegal drug use, K-pop group Big Bang’s G-Dragon has announced his plans to establish the JusPeace Foundation, aimed at erasing illegal drug use and providing medical treatment for teenagers who are into illegal drugs.

Galaxy Corp., G-Dragon’s new agency after leaving YG Entertainment, announced the news. The foundation, a combination of “justice” and “peace,” will be established next year and G-Dragon has pledged to contribute 300 million (about $231,242) to the foundation. The contribution will be made under the name of VIP, Big Bang’s fan club.

The foundation will be established based on the strong will to realize a society without prejudice through music. The first project of the foundation is to assist in eradicating illegal drug use and helping teenagers addicted to drugs, according to the agency’s CEO, Choi Yong-ho.

The foundation’s advisory committee will have experts in the fields of medical health, public policies, administration, welfare, and cultural sectors. G-Dragon was initially booked by the police on suspicion of illegal drug use but he was cleared eventually.

Korean media reported that G-Dragon expressed his concern over the increasing number of drug offenders and the lack of access to treatment. The agency stated that G-Dragon will support those who suffer from prejudice and injustice, promote awareness and solutions to social problems, and strive to create a fair society where everyone is treated equally.
