Filipino martial artists compete in Asian Championships



Tokyo Olympics veteran Kurt Bryan Barbosa and Hangzhou Asian Games bronze medalist Patrick King Perez are set to lead the Smart/MVPSF Philippine team in the upcoming Asian Taekwondo Championships in Da Nang, Vietnam on May 11-20. The Philippine Taekwondo Association announced that Barbosa, Perez, and other national pool members will face competitors from 34 countries, including South Korea, Iran, Jordan, Chinese Taipei, China, Cambodia, and Iraq.

The Kyorugi (Free Sparring) squad will include Kent John Ilde Banzon, Legolas Penaredondo, Sturdy Jay Gilbuena, Dave Cea, and Justin Mark Agno. Meanwhile, the women’s team will feature Clarence Sarza, Tachiana Keizha Mangin, Baby Jessica Canabal, Merica Lillyn Chan, Jubilee Briones, and Laila Delo.

In the Poomsae (Forms) category, competitors such as Rodolfo Reyes Jr., Ian Matthew Corton, Patrick King Perez, King Nash Alcairo, Darius Venerable, Justin Kobe Macario, June Ninobla, and Ernesto Guzman Jr. will represent the Philippines.
