Two injured in grenade attack at Catholic chapel in Cotabato City



An attack on a Catholic chapel in Barangay Rosary Heights 3 in Cotabato City left two churchgoers injured on Sunday morning. The incident occurred while a Bible service was taking place and two unidentified men on a motorcycle threw a hand grenade into the Santo Niño Chapel before fleeing the scene. The victims, Maribel Abis and Aniceta Tobil, are currently receiving treatment in different hospitals in the area. Mayor Bruce Matabalao condemned the attack and announced that the city government would offer a reward for any information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators. The Cotabato police are conducting an investigation, including collecting CCTV footage near the chapel, to determine the identities of the assailants. This incident comes more than five months after a similar attack on a gymnasium at Mindanao State University in Marawi City. No group has claimed responsibility for the chapel attack.
