The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has announced that it will be launching an investigation into a recent breach of its social media account. According to a statement released on Friday, an unknown entity gained unauthorized access to the PCG’s official Facebook page at 12:30 p.m.
PCG spokesperson Armand Balilo reported that the unauthorized individual uploaded two “malicious short videos” to the agency’s official Facebook page. The PCG stated, “The Coast Guard Public Affairs is now coordinating with the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center under the Department of Information and Communications Technology to conduct backend operations and assess the security breach.”
As of the latest update, the PCG’s Facebook page still displays movie recap videos. This isn’t the first time the PCG’s social media accounts have been compromised. The agency’s Facebook account was first hacked on February 26 but was recovered by February 29. Additionally, on February 15, the PCG’s X account (formerly Twitter) was also hacked, but access was restored shortly after.
