Brawner highly praised by Romualdez following Pag-asa visit

House Speaker Martin Romualdez, along with other lawmakers, recently visited Pag-asa Island in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) to inspect the area. Romualdez expressed his gratitude to Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief-of-Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr. for accompanying them and ensuring their security during the visit.

In a press conference, Romualdez emphasized the crucial role of the AFP in the success of their mission. He mentioned feeling secure and relaxed with General Brawner’s presence throughout the day. Romualdez was joined by House Majority Leader Mannix Dalipe, House Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan, and House Appropriations Committee Chairman Zaldy Co during the visit.

Romualdez extended his appreciation to the AFP and its men and women for their service and sacrifice in the Kalayaan Island Group, of which Pag-asa Island is a part. He highlighted the significance of the area to Philippine territorial integrity and expressed his admiration for its beauty.

During the trip, Romualdez mentioned the possibility of developing Pag-asa Island into a tourist destination similar to the Maldives. He also pledged to allocate funds from the House to construct essential infrastructure on the island. This will include storm shelters, a solar energy plant, and satellite-based communication facilities.

Overall, the visit to Pag-asa Island served as an opportunity for House leaders to connect with the local residents and soldiers while advocating for the development and protection of Philippine territory in the West Philippine Sea.
