Baguio Students Turned Sensation Release Hit Song and Sign Record Deal with Viva Records

Baguio City, Philippines – A group of students from Baguio surprised everyone when they decided to release a song for fun, only to find that it became a massive hit. The band, known as Cup Of Joe, consists of co-lead vocalists Raphaell Rida and Gian Bernardino, along with guitarists CJ and Gab Fernandez, bassist Sevii Severino, and keyboardist Xen Gareza. They have recently signed a contract with Viva Records.

The story behind their decision to release the song dates back to their days in Grade 12 when they were just a cover band. As a way to bid farewell to their Senior High School days, they wrote a song and uploaded it to a digital music platform. To their surprise, the song gained popularity and even charted on Spotify. Cup Of Joe quickly began attracting fans from all over the Philippines.

What sets Cup Of Joe apart from other pop bands is their unique talent for creating catchy tunes with meaningful lyrics. Their music style ranges from mellow acoustic pop to retro and even alternative pop. They describe themselves as “experimental” and are known for their distinct style that challenges traditional gender norms.

“We came up with a brand of styling na gender-bending,” shared Gian. The band members emphasize the importance of celebrating individuality and breaking away from the clean-cut image often associated with boy bands.

Raphaell added, “Wala po sa amin yung same. Like how we dress, how we express ourselves. Just be yourself and enjoy it.”

The members of Cup Of Joe, aged 20 to 22, come from different parts of Northern Luzon and are studying diverse subjects such as Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, Accountancy, Dentistry, and Medical Technology.

As for their name, Cup Of Joe was initially chosen impromptu but has since taken on a deeper meaning. They incorporate the slang term for coffee into their sound and vibe, aiming to create a relaxing and chill experience for their listeners. Cup Of Joe’s music explores a wide range of emotions, providing touching moments and uplifting experiences.

In 2022, Cup Of Joe released two singles, “Mananatili” and “Estranghero,” which showcased a more mature sound inspired by the pop hits of the 80s and 90s. The songs resonated with their growing fan base, leading to a sold-out two-day show at the Viva Cafe in Cubao, Quezon City. Their debut EP, titled “Patutunguhan,” was a hit among their devoted fanbase, known as Joewahs.

With tracks like “Sinderella,” “Nag-iisang Muli,” “Alas Dose,” “Sagada,” “Hayaan,” “Bukod Tangi,” and “Ikaw Pa Rin Ang Pipiliin Ko,” Cup Of Joe has shown their versatility and ability to serve different blends of music to their audience.
