Don Bosco Relies on Electric Fans for Relief from Summer Heat

Don Bosco Makati School Receives Donation of High-Volume, Low-Speed Fan to Beat the Heat

MANILA, Philippines — The Don Bosco Technical Institute Makati recently received a donation of a high-volume, low-speed (HVLS) fan for its Versiglia Court from the Don Bosco Makati Association of Past Pupils, Inc. (DBMAPPI).

The fan, which was installed on May 3, aims to provide relief to students who gather in the court for morning and afternoon sessions. According to outgoing Treasurer and Board of Trustee of DBMAPPI Monday Canilla, the donation was driven by a necessity to address the challenges posed by excessive heat, especially during the summer months.

This isn’t the first time DBMAPPI has extended a helping hand to the school. In July 2023, the group donated two HVLS fans, which are currently being utilized in the school’s Savio Dome.

The initiative comes at a time when students are seen bringing their own electric fans to school in a bid to combat the rising temperatures. The Department of Education has also shown concern for the issue, with plans to potentially end the school year earlier to mitigate the impact of the intense heat on learners.

While the country may have already experienced its highest actual temperature for 2024, the public is advised not to be complacent, as there is still a 50 percent chance that temperatures could rise further until the end of the first two weeks of May.
