Studio Ghibli unveils new images from Hayao Miyazaki’s upcoming movie ‘The Boy and the Heron’

Beloved Japanese animation studio Studio Ghibli has delighted fans by releasing a set of film stills from Hayao Miyazaki’s highly anticipated film, “The Boy and the Heron.” The images were shared on the studio’s website more than a month after the movie premiered in Japan.

“The Boy and the Heron” is said to be Miyazaki’s final project with Studio Ghibli and is inspired by his favorite childhood book, Genzaburo Yoshino’s 1937 novel “How Do You Live?” Set after World War II, the film follows the story of a boy named Mahito Maki, who is grieving the death of his mother. He and his father move to the countryside, where Mahito discovers an abandoned tower and encounters a magical world with a talking gray heron.

This film marks Miyazaki’s return to filmmaking after a ten-year hiatus since the release of his fictionalized biographical film “The Wind Rises” in 2013. Studio Ghibli took a unique approach to promotion, choosing not to release an official trailer or other promotional materials prior to the film’s debut. Despite this, “The Boy and the Heron” achieved the biggest opening in Studio Ghibli’s history, earning 1.83 billion yen ($13.2 million) during its opening weekend.

Although there is no official announcement about the film’s release date in the Philippines, fans are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to experience Miyazaki’s latest masterpiece.
