Health workers receive P59.8B in payments for COVID-19 services

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced on Wednesday that the government has paid P59.8 billion or 78.9 percent of the allowances owed to emergency health workers who served during the peak of the pandemic. This announcement was made on National Health Workers’ Day, as mandated by Republic Act No. 10069.

The President stated, “In fulfillment of our promise, our administration has given out P59.8 billion or 78.92 percent of COVID health emergency allowance to our frontline heroes.” This recognition comes as the country continues to honor the sacrifices made by health workers who have been bravely serving the nation.

Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa had previously estimated that it would take until 2026 for the government to fully pay out the emergency allowances totaling P62.9 billion to all eligible health workers. The government’s efforts to support and compensate health workers during the pandemic have been ongoing.

The Inquirer Foundation continues to support healthcare frontliners and is accepting cash donations to aid in this endeavor. Donations can be made through Banco de Oro (BDO) current account #007960018860 or via PayMaya.
